Educational Programs

A coeducational day school, The Wilkes School enrolls children three years old through grade five. Independent and affiliated with Grace and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, it is the only elementary school in downtown Baltimore accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS). The school is also a member of the Middle Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association. The Wilkes School shares its rich history with the former Grace and St. Peter’s School, founded at its current location in 1946.

Preparing students to thrive socially and academically in secondary school and beyond, our programs blend traditional practices and proven innovative strategies. Children are encouraged to recognize and appreciate their own strengths and to respect and value the unique qualities of their fellow students.

Faculty specialization, enhanced academic programs, and cross-curricular thematic units, are intertwined features of the Wilkes School program for students in grades 2 through 5. This innovative and distinctive program is designed to foster critical thinking and problem solving skills, to structure the acquisition of content knowledge, and to provide engaging contexts to guide inquiry.

The Wilkes School does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, ethnic origin, or religion in the administration of its educational policies, employment policies, athletic or other school administered programs.
